Through NORA, Nordic Mining targets to be a pioneer for future development within the area of subsea mineral resources. NORA applied for exploration licenses for several prospective areas in 2010. In 2012, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Statoil and NORA entered into a joint cooperation project regarding seabed mineral resources. The novel project resulted in the first qualitative resource assessment for seabed minerals in Norway.

Globally, the interest for marine mineral resource has increased strongly over the last years, and a race to secure prospective exploration areas has started among countries and industrial companies. The Norwegian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) is an interesting area for finding new seabed mineral deposits.

NORA is participating in MarMine, an industry driven research project partly funded by the Norwegian Research CounciI alongside 15 different industrial and research institutions. Read more at the MarMine web http://pet.geo.ntnu.no/wordpress/marmine/
